What we're learning about the teen who died in apparent drowning in Cedar Park

Cedar Park police have not released the identity of the 15-year-old.

CEDAR PARK, Texas — Cedar Park police and the Texas Game Wardens continue to investigate the apparent drowning of a teen whose body was recovered Saturday at Twin Lakes Park.

Witnesses reported the 15-year-old having trouble staying above water after jumping from a cliff with friends. A Williamson County Sheriff's Office dive team later recovered his body after an hourslong search.

The Twin Lakes YMCA said lifeguards are only on duty when the YMCA has camp events going on, and that those participants always have life jackets. Officials always recommend going to a place to swim that has lifeguards.

A place in Central Texas where they do have lifeguards on duty is Barton Springs Pool, where Mark St. Clair enjoyed the day Monday with his three kids. He said he likes the added safety measures.

“I think they mean well, and they want everyone to stay safe,” St. Clair said.

Kevin Krienke, who works as a shift commander for Williamson County EMS, encourages people to go to places with lifeguards. He also urges people to be extra cautious if they head out on lakes like Lake Travis or Lake Georgetown.

"We recommend if you are going to be on one of those lakes to obviously wear a life jacket, swim with a buddy and stay near the shore," Krienke said.

He added to always be aware of warning signs that say no swimming, no jumping or no diving allowed.

Meanwhile, Cedar Park police have not released the identity of the 15-year-old.
