AUSTIN, Texas — As expected, due to 34 consecutive days without measurable rainfall (with more to come) at Camp Mabry, drought conditions have worsened locally and statewide.
A perfect example of this would be along the I-35 corridor, which is now entirely within the "moderate" drought category. This is in lockstep with a 7% increase in that category statewide.
Additionally, 9% more of the state is now in a drought designation compared to last week.
What's more is that some areas southwest of the KVUE area, such as San Antonio, have fallen even further into a drought.
Those areas, which include southern Blanco County, are now in the "severe" drought category, which is part of a 3% statewide increase.
With these drought conditions worsening, it is important to note that most Central Texas counties are under a burn ban. You can check to see if your county is included here.
Violators are subject to a fine, so it's in the best interest not to burn anything outside for any reason in those areas, especially with a heightened fire risk from the dry ground in some spots.
If you're looking for any relief from the drought, we do not anticipate anything over the next week. However, we do expect a fall front to arrive and drop our highs to the lower 80s by midweek.
