Round Rock doctor suspended, accused of inappropriate behavior

The Texas Medical Board said the physician posed "a continuing threat to public welfare."

AUSTIN, Texas — On Thursday, May 16, the Texas Medical Board’s disciplinary panel suspended a Round Rock physician for posing “a continuing threat to public welfare.”

The temporary suspension was issued without notice for Willard James Davis, D.O., effective immediately, the Texas Medical Board said.

The board said it found evidence Davis was impaired while working at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital. It also said that while working in the emergency department at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Davis engaged in inappropriate behavior with a patient and left the emergency department unattended for extended periods of time.

According to an affidavit, Davis was arrested in northwest Austin on April 20 for allegedly driving while intoxicated and threatening to physically assault the arresting officer.

The affidavit said a 911 caller reported Davis asleep in his car in the middle of the intersection of Anderson Mill Road and the U.S. 183 northbound service road around 4:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they reportedly found Davis sitting in the driver's seat eating food from a Tupperware container, "unaware that his vehicle was parked in the middle of this intersection while he was eating his food." Police said Davis failed a sobriety test and admitted to drinking at least three drinks that night.

While being taken to the Williamson County Jail, Davis allegedly became aggressive, screamed profanities and ultimately threatened to assault the arresting officer. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor, and obstruction and retaliation, a third-degree felony.

In a statement, St. David's HealthCare said, "The last time Dr. Will Davis worked at any St. David’s HealthCare facility was on January 24, 2024 at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital. He is no longer providing medical services at any of our facilities."

The Medical Center Hospital in Odessa added that, "Dr. Davis worked in our Emergency Department for less than a week through an outside agency and last worked in our facility in April 2024. He was never an associate of Medical Center Health System and no longer provides services at any of our facilities."

A suspension hearing will be held as soon as possible, with 10 days’ notice given to Davis, unless Davis decides to waive the hearing.

The suspension will remain in place until the board decides to take further action.
