ELLISCOUNTY, Texas -- A Texas Department of Family and Protective Services [CPS] employee has been fired after making racially derogatory comments on Twitter.
Patrick Crimmins, a spokesperson for DFPS tells KVUE News Rita DeShannon was fired Wednesday after making the racially inflammatory comments using her Twitter account @TexasPeanut on July 15.
One tweet read Of course the gov will pursue civil rights charges to appease the *explitive*, referring to the Trayvon Martin case in Florida.
In another tweet she writes, Every white American needs to own a gun and teach your family gun safety and how to shoot...your family is a target now...it will get worse. A third tweet goes on to say, Trayvon Martin, thug in training, came up against an American gun owner, jumped the wrong person that night, he would have died young anyway.
Crimmins says DeShannon had worked for CPS since 2003. First as a foster care worker, then an investigative caseworker. She had served as the Ellis County-based special investigator since 2010.
DeShannon is also a law-enforcement officer, who worked as a detective in the Monroe, Louisiana, Police Department, according to her LinkedIn profile. Her profile also indicates she owns AAA Texas Process Service, a company that serves court papers for the Texas Supreme Court.
