SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State University's KTSW (FM 89.9), The University Star and the S.C.O.P.E organization joined forces to present a benefit concert for the victims of a fatal apartment fire in San Marcos.
The Iconic Village apartments caught fire on July 20, killing five people, some of which have been confirmed as Texas State students.
The event took place at the Texas State United Campus Ministry on Aug. 1 and was free to the public. It featured local musicians, donated art, food and resources for the victims. According to KTSW, all proceeds will go directly to those affected by the fire and the families of the deceased.
KTSW announced on August 13 that they raised $7,759 during the event. The money came from suggested donations for admission, donated art, and donations for food and drinks. They also collected supplies such as food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and kitchen and school supplies for the victims.
Queer Cats, Latinas Unidas and Texas State United Campus Ministries also assisted.
