AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott is touting state accomplishments over the last year and looking ahead toward the rest of 2024.

The governor released the 2024 Report to the People of Texas, which is released every other year when the legislature is not scheduled to meet and there’s no formal State of the State delivered. This is his fifth report since he took office in 2015.

According to the report, it appears that many of the political battles the governor fought in 2023 are likely to continue this year and beyond.

The governor outlined his legislative victories in his 2024 report. That included $18 billion in property tax cuts signed into law last August and boosts in funding for schools, higher education, and infrastructure.

Abbott also highlighted more than $6.5 billion added by the legislature for border security funding, bringing the total funding for Operation Lone Star to $11.2 billion.

Abbott has been in ongoing legal battles over border policies which are likely to continue throughout the year.

Some of the policies of the last year that have drawn the most attention include the busing of migrants to other U.S cities, the deployment of National Guard members at the border, and the signing of Senate Bill 4 that would allow local and state law enforcement to arrest people suspected of entering Texas illegally.
