AUSTIN, Texas — As Tropical Storm Beryl approaches the Texas coastline, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has been acting governor.

It's been a busy few days for Patrick, who issued disaster declarations for more than 120 Texas counties.

But, many Texans have been wondering; where is Governor Greg Abbott?

Gov. Abbott is overseas in Taiwan.

Abbott is on a trip, which his office says is intended to bolster Texas' economy and strengthen ties to multiple Asian nations.

During his trip, he will travel to Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. Already, Abbott opened a State of Texas Taiwan Office to bolster trade between Texas and the East Asian nation.

The governor's trip started Friday, and he is not expected to be back until Saturday, July 13. Until then, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick will act as governor of Texas.
