AUSTIN, Texas — A South Austin man wants more accountability from police and management at his property after he says his vehicle was broken into twice.
It happened in October at The Preserve at Travis Creek in South Austin, when Landon Ray claimed thieves first targeted his roommate's vehicle. He said the following week, the windows of his SUV were smashed in, along with his neighbors'.
"They came by and broke into six other people's cars," said Ray. "I had a magazine for my gun in the car, and my gun was not in the car, but they took the magazine, they took the ammo."
It didn't end there. The week of Nov. 13, Ray said thieves struck again. Nothing was stolen during that incident, but plenty of damage was left behind.
"They just decided to break my window and then they didn't get what they were looking for, which I assume is guns," said Ray.
Ray said he filed a police report for the October incident, but not for the most recent incident in November.
"I just don't want to file another police report and waste my time," said Ray.
KVUE reached out to the Austin Police Department. A spokesperson said the case from October is currently suspended "due to insufficient leads/evidence."
KVUE also reached out to the complex. The community manager said they were not a spokesperson for the community and would hand our contact information over "to the appropriate person(s)." KVUE has yet to hear back.
"I'm not scared for my safety. It's just there's a lot of people that are over here, you know, there's children, families," said Ray. "It would make me feel better if there was more being done from the APD or even the property management companies."
