Third family member dies in alleged drunk driving crash on U.S. 183

The driver of the vehicle that crossed U.S. 183 and killed two people on Nov. 12 has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

A third family member has died in an alleged drunk driving crash on U.S. 183, Austin police confirmed.

Police have charged Guy Brasted, 41, with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault serious bodily injury for his alleged role in the Nov. 11 crash. Police and Austin-Travis County EMS said they were called to the 9400 block of Research Boulevard (between MoPac and Loop 360) around 3:30 p.m. Nov. 11 for the crash. According to the police affidavit for Brasted, his Jeep was traveling northbound before crossing the grassy median and striking a Fiat sedan carrying four people. After Brasted crashed into the Fiat, police said he then struck a BMW.

Two of the people in the Fiat, identified in the affidavit as a 38-year-old Nancy Latulippe and her 14-year-old son Jackson, died at the scene. Nancy's husband, Scott, who was in the right front seat, was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and their daughter Kiera was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Scott, 41, died Friday after he was taken off life support, police said.

The family is from the San Diego area and was vacationing in Austin when the accident happened. KVUE spoke with students and staff at Scott Latuilppe's High School. Principal Ron McCowan described the Latulippe's as a beloved family.

"We stand by this family during this time of grief. The students and staff are so devastated by this," McCowan said.

Police said in the affidavit that Brasted was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center, and a blood draw showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of .203: more than double the legal limit. Brasted was booked into the Travis County Jail on Nov. 12, and online records state he is being held on combined $200,000 bond.

Police are seeking the public's assistance in determining the events leading up to the Nov. 11 crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-6935 if they have not done so already.
