Tire theft becomes 'a concerning trend' in Hays County

The Hays County Sheriff's Office is warning drivers to protect their vehicles by using wheel locks, alarms and more.

HAYS COUNTY, Texas — Hays County drivers are being warned about a recent increase in tire thefts in the area.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) posted to Facebook regarding "a concerning trend," where tires are getting stolen particularly from Toyota Corolla vehicles.

This issue has been happening mainly in San Marcos and Kyle, and HCSO is working with the San Marcos and Kyle police departments to investigate further.

HCSO also offered a number of tips to help drivers keep their tires from getting taken, including using protective devices such as wheel locks and anti-theft wheel alarm systems.

The department also recommends parking in secure, busy spots with cameras or covered garages.

It also encourages individuals to stay alert when it comes to peculiar behavior.

Law enforcement is continuing to learn more as this concern continues.
