CLARK COUNTY, Wis. — Seven people involved in a Wisconsin crash that killed nine on Friday were all members of an Amish community in the state of Virginia, according to a family friend.
Milwaukee NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV spoke with the man who said a 2-year-old boy was the lone survivor.
"Surprisingly, he was not harmed; there was no burns," he said of the boy's condition, adding, "He's missing his mom, which you can imagine is... you can imagine just a hard thing that's gonna be."
At the time of the interview, he said the boy's grandparents were expected to take him into their care.
The crash happened Friday morning at the intersection of Highway 95 and County Road J in Dewhurst Township, Wisconsin, about 45 minutes outside of Eau Claire. According to the Clark County Sheriff, a semi-trailer traveling east on 95 was approaching the intersection around 11:30 a.m. when it collided with a van traveling northbound.
The driver of the semi, and eight people inside the van, were killed.
