AUSTIN, Texas — Authorities have identified the man killed in a crash involving a train in South Austin.
According to Austin police, 55-year-old Scott Sticksel of Amarillo was killed in the crash on Friday, Aug. 9, when his SUV collided with a Union Pacific train on Matthews Lane.
Details on what led up to the crash are limited, but Austin-Travis County EMS said medics had to pull Sticksel out of the vehicle following the crash. Despite life-saving measures, Sticksel was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials with Union Pacific said the train crew was not injured in the incident. Multiple authorities continue to investigate the crash.
Police are investigating Sticksel's death as the 52nd fatal crash of 2024. Those crashes have resulted in 55 deaths.
