Travis County Commissioners approve resolution opposing SB-2

Travis County officials are opposing SB-2, which they say could weaken the county's ability to deal with emergencies and handle growth.

AUSTIN, Texas — Senate Bill 2 (SB-2) is a property tax reform bill that would reduce the rollback rate from 8% to 2.5% for all taxing entities including cities, counties and other taxing entities. A rate higher than 2.5% would automatically trigger an election. Right now, the cap is at eight percent.

If passed, the bill would make it harder for taxing entities to increase property taxes, bringing an increase to a vote at an earlier percent increase.
