Travis County deputies now have access to opioid reversal drug

The Texas Overdose Naloxone Initiative is supplying every patrol deputy in the county with an overdose reversal drug.

Travis County deputies are getting a new way to save lives.

According to KVUE's media partners at the Austin American-Statesman, The Texas Overdose Naloxone Initiative is supplying every patrol deputy in the county with an overdose reversal drug.

The Statesman reports that the drug, which can either be injected into the body or breathed through the nose, has saved at least 1,000 lives in the state of Texas through the initiative.

Naxolene can be used on patients who are overdosing or on deputies and K-9's if they come into contact with the very potent and potentially deadly Fentanyl.

The Statesman said the donation cost the The Texas Overdose Naloxone Initiative $18,000 for 480 doses for the sheriff's office.
