AUSTIN, Texas — Danish sculptor Thomas Dambo has been building giant trolls across the world for more than 10 years.
What started as a simple commissioned piece has turned into a part of the culture in many cities, with the newest troll design coming to Central Texas this year.
After receiving positive community and City of Austin support, Pease District Park will soon be home to one of Dambo's creations.
Construction is set for the end of February and is expected to be completed by the middle of March, when the piece can be viewed for free near the Kingsbury Commons.
The majority of materials were provided by Harvest Lumber, which collected wood and other sustainable items from the University of Texas at Austin's J.J. Pickle Research Campus.
All funds have been provided by a donation from the Tejemos Foundation, a San Antonio-based organization offering grants to various establishments.
Currently, the team is searching for volunteers to bring this project to life. Those interested can sign up online.
Dambo has always been passionate about recycling. Now he's sharing his vision of the world, one troll at a time.
