AUSTIN, Texas — Tens of thousands of cars pass the intersection of RM 2222 and RM 620 every day.
According to TxDOT, about 50,000 cars on average per day cross the intersection.
The bottleneck in Northwest Austin is about to get a fix.
On RM 2222, TxDOT will add a lane eastbound from Bonaventure to Sitio Del Rio Boulevard, and a lane westbound from Ribelin Ranch to Sitio Del Rio.
The agency will also add raised medians and turn lanes.

In a second project, TxDOT will build a bypass or connector road just north of Steiner Ranch Boulevard to give drivers a shortcut from RM 620 to RM 2222.
That construction started on Wednesday and is expected to be finished by mid-2021.
