AUSTIN -- Uber announced Monday the launch of its dockless electric bikeshare service "JUMP" in Austin.
The electric JUMP bikes provide a boost up to 20 mph with every pedal, making it easier for riders to get around town. The bikes will also feature "lock to" technology and GPS intelligence to ensure that users ride within the city system responsibly.
JUMP bikes first launched in the United States in 2017. In May, Uber acquired JUMP as part of its mission to expand their transportation options available on the Uber app.

“With the launch of JUMP in Austin, we are excited about getting more people on bikes,” said Ryan Rzepecki, Co-founder and CEO of JUMP bikes. “We believe bikeshare will be a permanent cornerstone of Austin’s transportation system, and give Austin residents yet another option to move about the city.”
How it works:
The Uber and JUMP mobile apps will allow users to find and unlock JUMP bikes.
Via Uber:
- Tap Bike in the menu of the Uber app.
- You’ll see the available JUMP bikes around you, and can select one to reserve.
- The app will give you a pin number so you can unlock your bike.
Via JUMP:
- Download the JUMP Bikes app to create an account.
- Use the in-app map to find and reserve bikes – or simply walk up to a bike.
- Enter your account number and four-digit pin.
Dockless transportation options were first introduced to Austin back in April. JUMP joins many other dockless rides in Austin including electric scooters and bikes from Bird, GOAT and LimeBike.
It's safe to say we will see more than just cars on the streets this summer.
