UPDATE: Austinite and 4-month-old Maverick REUNITED!

The four-month-old missing puppy that went viral on social media in Austin was reunited with his owner Tuesday.

AUSTIN — After a man used drones and garnered assistance from thousands of Austinites on social media, Jesse McNeely has found his 4-month-old puppy, Maverick.

Jesse McNeely was at the Moontower Saloon in South Austin on April 22 playing pool when a friend took his German Shorthaired Pointer named Maverick out to the parking lot to use the bathroom.

Maverick ran off from his leash and the friends spent hours looking in the surrounding wooded area for him.

After a night of unsuccessful searching, McNeely used his drone to search the area from above. Afterward, McNeely said he spent $750 for a professional search dog from Dallas to come and try and track Maverick’s scent, but to no avail.

McNeely posted to several neighborhood sites with a photo of Maverick, but it wasn’t until a post on Facebook on April 26 that he got an influx of tips from people all over Austin.

The post was shared more than 1,800 times and McNeely said he had received dozens of messages from people saying they spotted Maverick.

After searching high, low, near, and far for more than a week, McNeely told KVUE a mailman out of Del Valle saw our story about the missing puppy Friday night, found him and reunited him with Jesse on Tuesday. The moment was captured in an Austin Lost and Found Pets Facebook page.
