AUSTIN, Texas — Two people are being taken to a hospital early Thursday afternoon after a gas leak at the University of Texas at Austin.

According to a social media post from the Austin Fire Department, crews are responding to the incident at W. 20th St. and University Avenue.

UT Austin Police (UTPD) said the leak started because of construction happening in the area, and the gas is no longer on at this time.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid W. 20th St. and Whitis Avenue, as well as University Avenue and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, until 6 p.m. Thursday or later.

AFD and UTPD are working together to resolve this issue.

This is a developing story. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
