UT basketball's Andrew Jones released from hospital

Jones was released on Saturday and will remain in Houston for outpatient treatment.

HOUSTON -- University of Texas guard Andrew Jones has been released from UT MD Anderson Cancer and will continue his treatments for leukemia on an outpatient basis, according to a statement released by the university.

The university released a statement from Jones, saying that being released from the hospital on Saturday was a a "big step for me and my family.”

Jones tweeted a live video Saturday when he was released thanking his followers for their support.

“My family and I will remain in Houston for this next stage of my recovery,” Jones said in the statement. “As we’ve said before, I’m really thankful for all the love and support that has been shown to me and to my family. It has truly been overwhelming. I hope you’ll continue to keep me in your daily thoughts and prayers. Together, we WILL win this fight.”

He was released Saturday around 5 p.m.

"My doctors tell me I am continuing to show improvement, and that is really encouraging," he said.
