AUSTIN, Texas — Just a year ago, golf fans across Austin watched Farah O'Keefe claim gold at the UIL state championships.
Now Texas golf fans are watching her claim gold in burnt orange.
Over her freshman season, O'Keefe played in nine tournaments and 28 rounds, with a stroke average of 71.11. That average is the fourth best for a single round in program history.
With that success, O'Keefe claimed victories at the Western Women's Am and the Palmer Cup for Team USA. Her performances led to the conference naming her the Big 12 Player and Freshman of the Year.
"Representing the U.S. was like the coolest thing I've done so far in my career," O'Keefe said. "When I think about the last year, in terms of what I've been able to control, I feel like I really haven't done anything different than how I normally play golf."
Her normal habits have led O'Keefe to abnormal heights as a freshman.
However, this is just the beginning for O'Keefe on the Forty Acres. She's hoping to etch her name into record books and among the Texas greats.
"To be able to kind of leave my mark on Texas Women's Golf, even after I've played here ... Maybe provide some sort of motivation for future Longhorns," O'Keefe said. "It's something that's super heartwarming and something that I wanna accomplish."
Next up for O'Keefe will be her first season in the SEC. We'll see if she can dominate that conference as well.
