AUSTIN — The University of Texas in Austin is remembering former President George H. W. Bush Wednesday in a special way.
On Monday, Governor Greg Abbott proclaimed Dec. 5 as an official Day of Mourning in Texas in honor of the 41st President of the United States.

To honor that, UT celebrated the life of the former president by holding a moment of silence at 10 a.m. Wednesday after the hourly Tower bell chime. Wednesday evening, the UT Tower was darkened with only the No. 41 lightened in its windows.
Mr. Bush was elected president on Nov. 8, 1988, sworn in on Jan. 20, 1989, and served until Jan. 20, 1993.
The following statement was released on the UT Office of the President's website:
"President Bush was the very definition of a public servant. He loved this country and devoted his life to upholding its ideals and values at the very highest level. But his legacy transcends the loftiness of his titles and the gravity of his accomplishments. His grandson, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, said it best: 'He was more than a great man; he was a good man.'"
President Bush will be laid to rest at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University Thursday.
