CAVE CREEK, Ariz. - A group of adorable animals will be making their way to Arizona this month.

Twenty miniature donkeys will make their way from a Texas rescue to Triple R Horse Rescue and eventually be available for adoption.

For a rescue that normally houses about 10 horses, 20 mini donkeys wouldn't be a huge ask (after all, they're mini), but Triple R president Ken Bacher said Wednesday the interest in the donkeys has been overwhelming.

"I'm still relatively sane through this whole process," he said, noting that the donkeys went viral after the rescue posted an article about them in its newsletter.

Bacher said he and his staff have gotten about 200 calls per day for the last week from about 35 states requesting information about adopting the donkeys. People outside the state of Arizona cannot adopt the donkeys from Triple R.

Triple R was hesitant about drawing attention to the donkeys because Bacher said the staff knew it would be inundated with calls.

Bacher said the rescue has a fairly intense process for adoption that includes an application, an interview and a visit before the animal sees the home, and even then, the rescue retains ownership of the animal in case circumstances change.
