GEORGETOWN, Texas — There are a lot of beautiful spots around Austin, and one of those areas is Georgetown, Texas. If you haven't been there yet, you may want to put it on your list of places to visit.
Georgetown is located just a few miles north of Austin, along Interstate 35, and you can spot the town's historic square from the interstate.
Georgetown's square is known as the most beautiful square in the state and offers a lot to do for those looking to experience a new area nearby.
History about the town can be shown all across the square with statues and plaques, telling the story of past events that occurred there, and the history of people, businesses and buildings that still stand on the square.
Some of the buildings around the square date back to the 1800s and can be considered pieces of art with their beautiful architecture.
If you are looking for a place to hike, bike, swim, kayak, fish or just relax, the San Gabriel River at Blue Hole Park is just a few steps off of the square and offers all of the above with a steady flow of water passing through. Beyond Blue Hole Park, downtown Georgetown has plenty of attractions for the whole family and constantly has events to bring the community together.
If you get a little bit hungry after your walk, or if you want a bite to eat before taking a walk, there are plenty of great food options throughout the square.
After eating you can head out onto the square to see all of the shops throughout town, all within a short walk of each other, on the square.
Tim Luke from Leander and Vince Papke from Cedar Park were both out on the square in Georgetown while their wives shopped, enjoying the nice weather.
Luke stated when it's Christmas time, the shops are beautiful and it makes it a great time to come out with the weather, parades and shows this time of year.
Luke said he likes how quaint Georgetown is and how it is not as commercialized as the other cities, while his friend Papke commented it's nice to be able to find a place to park.
Across the square, John and Laura Rarity of Sun City were enjoying the nice weather on Sunday while sitting on a bench and said the beautiful weather brought them out to relax while taking in some of the sights and sounds of the square.
Laura Rarity said she loves how "Georgetown has a lot of activities, good restaurants, and the people are very friendly, and there is a wonderful community because they kind of make feel like you are a part of that community.
If you're looking for a getaway from the big city for a day, Georgetown's beautiful town square may be the right answer for you.
We all could use a slower pace every once in a while.
