AUSTIN, Texas — Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man died following a shooting on Sunday night in South Austin.
Officers responded to the 700 block of W. William Cannon Drive around 11 p.m. for a check welfare call for a man who was bleeding, the Austin Police Department said. Police found the man on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.
Austin-Travis County EMS took the man to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 7:13 a.m. on Monday.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses. APD said the investigation showed the victim had just arrived at an apartment complex with another person and was shot by an unknown suspect who fled the area.
Detectives are asking anyone with any information to call police at 512-974-TIPS or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
This case is being investigated as Austin’s 20th homicide of 2024.
