FLORENCE, Texas — School has been canceled for all Florence ISD campuses on Monday, Sept. 30, due to a water line repair. All schools will resume a normal schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
The repairs left both Florence Middle School and Florence High School with no water, the district said in an update on Sunday.
On Monday afternoon, Florence ISD said the repair had been made and classes will resume on Tuesday. Parents are asked to send their students with water to drink as campuses will likely be under a boil water notice for the start of the day.
It comes as the city of Florence said it was performing general upgrade maintenance on its main water line to the middle and high school when “unforeseen complications occurred.”
“Both the contractor’s crew and the city’s crew have been working diligently to rectify the situation nonstop over the last 72 hours,” the city said in a statement on Sunday.
Residents along FM 970 were without water until Monday as the city’s water engineer worked on a solution. Those residents remain under a boil water notice.
The city said it is working with Williamson County and local emergency services to provide water for residents who need it.
Water is available at the Florence Fire Department at 301 S. Patterson Ave. Bulk water for affected agricultural customers is also available at the fire department.
Residents are asked to drive through the back of the station so crews can help load bottled water into their vehicles.
“The city apologizes for the inconvenience this has caused our customers,” the city said.
