Hutto Independent School District has filled the role of police chief after the retirement of former Chief Rick Stone.

After Stone retired from the position during June 2016, the City of Hutto Police Chief Earl Morrison oversaw both departments under an interim structure.

In a release, the school district said William Edwards, who previously held the position of Pflugerville ISD Police Chief, as well as a role at the Pflugerville Police Department, would officially start the position on March 20.

“I am very excited to be a member of the Hippo Nation and serve the Hutto community,” said Chief Edwards. “Serving an ISD police department is much different from a municipal department. We have a chance to make a significant difference in the lives of young people, and we have an opportunity to help redirect kids headed down a wrong path before it’s too late.”

Currently, the Hutto ISD Police Department has three officers and a Corporal. They also have two Hutto PD officers that will transition back to the city police department.
