TAYLOR, Texas — The city of Taylor is giving residents a heads-up that their water might taste and smell different this month.

The city is set to perform maintenance on its water system Tuesday, Dec. 3, through Monday, Jan. 6. During that time, customers might notice the water smells like chlorine, and it might have a change in taste. But don't worry: The city says the water will still be considered safe for people and pets to drink.

The maintenance process involves disinfecting the water with only chlorine and no chloramines, according to the city. Annual disinfectant changes are performed to reset the system’s disinfection capabilities and free pipes of sediment buildup.

Concentrations maintained during the maintenance will be within state and federal drinking water standards.

During the process, flushing the system will be performed to help maintain clear water for customers and to ensure the free chlorine reaches the entire water supply. The process will be repeated when converting the water system back to chloramine.

For questions, residents are asked to contact the City of Taylor Utilities Department at 512-352-3251.
