You could be seeing more Pfood trucks in Pflugerville

Some business owners are pushing for more lenient regulations on food trucks in the city of Pflugerville.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Food trucks are a staple in Austin.

Business owners want to make it easier for vendors to work in Pflugerville too.

“There’s a big foodie community here,” said Patricia Bedford, owner of Suga’s Cakery in Pflugerville.

Bedford runs her business out of her apartment kitchen and said she hopes to own a food truck to help it expand.

“It would be nice to be able to go out and see the faces I get through orders,” said Bedford.

She explained that food trucks are a rare sight in Pflugerville, and she said she thinks it’s because of the regulations.

“I feel that the community is a little underserved in that way because there's a lot of great restaurants and a lot of great businesses that would be able to serve this population if they were here,” Bedford said.

Bedford thinks Keisha Washington and her food truck, Da Boot Po-Boys, is one of those businesses. Washington lives in Pflugerville but runs her truck out of Austin.

“We have to come to Austin in order to operate,” said Washington.

Those with the City said, currently, food truck owners have to have a day permit, and it must be used for a special event.

They said they are working to introduce a pilot program that would grant vendors a permit for the year.
