A look inside the Longhorns' Pro Day

Seventeen former Longhorn football players performed drills in front of scouts from the National Football League.

AUSTIN, Texas — Seventeen former Longhorns attempted to make an impression on NFL scouts in attendance inside of the bubble at the Frank Denius practice facility.

The NFL Draft begins on April 25 and lasts until April 27.

If you're not familiar with how Pro Day works, NFL Draft hopefuls wear tights and are shirtless, performing drills such as the vertical leap and being timed in the 40-yard dash.

"Film is what you're judged on honestly," said former Longhorn defensive lineman Charles Omenihu. "We don't play football in underwear and shorts."

True statement.

Omenihu probably had the least to prove as well as linebacker Gary Johnson, thanks to their performances at the NFL Combine.

Johnson was put on the spot during his interview session by Johnson's mentor, former Longhorn linebacker Malik Jefferson. Jefferson is entering his second season in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals.

"So, how hard was it playing without Malik this year?," said Jefferson.

"It was hard," said Johnson. "I didn't have Malik telling me where to go at times."

Receiver, Lil Jordan Humphrey had something to prove after posting a 4.75 40-yard dash at the combine.

Meanwhile, Breckyn Hager and his shorter hair appeared to be drilled at linebacker.

Chris Nelson is an NFL draft prospect who has trimmed down to a svelt 300-pound mountain of a defensive tackle.

I asked Nelson about the ability to celebrate a big play with his trademark Nelly Rub and not be penalized for it.

Nelson proceeded to give me a tutorial on the Nelly Rub.
