Austin lottery winner now $34 million richer

An anonymous winner picked the lucky ticket for the Lotto Texas drawing on Dec. 30.

AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin resident is now millions of dollars richer after a lottery drawing on Dec. 30.

The anonymous resident purchased their lucky Quick Pick ticket at the Far West H-E-B, located at 7025 Village Center Drive. The winner chose to receive the cash value of approximately $20 million, not including taxes.

When KVUE previously reported on this winning ticket earlier this month, the jackpot hadn't been claimed. Lottery officials said the winner had 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize.

On Jan. 29, the Texas Lottery said the jackpot has now been claimed.

In order to win the jackpot, Lotto Texas ticketholders must match all six numbers to the ticket drawn, with results announced at 10:12 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

The Texas Lottery offers eight different draw games, including the Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto Texas and more. Scratch tickets, including Cash Blast, Crossword and Gold Rush, are also available.

In December, an Austinite won $3 million playing the scratch game $750 Million Winner Circle. Later the same month, a $2 million Powerball ticket was sold in northwest Austin.

Any winner who receives $1 million or more is allowed to remain anonymous, according to the Texas Administrative Code Lottery Commission. All participants must be 18 years or older, and tickets must be purchased at an authorized Texas location in order to qualify.

Lottery tickets can be payed using debit cards, cash, check or specific vouchers or coupons. However, credit card payments are never acceptable.

Interested ticket buyers should also be aware of how to protect themselves from potential scams. A few key points to remember are to never provide private information to unauthorized sources, avoid buying tickets from strangers and report any frauds accordingly.

For those who are interested in testing their luck, tickets are available at convenience stores, gas stations and other authorized locations across the state.
