AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas Powerball winner is running out of time to pick up their prize money.

More than five months ago, on April 10, a winning $2 million Quick Pick Power Play ticket was purchased in Austin at a C Mart located at 7007 Village Center Drive.

That ticket has yet to be claimed. If the winner fails to come forward by Oct. 7, they will no longer be eligible to receive their reward

"We encourage our Powerball players to take another look at their tickets, and if your numbers match, sign the back of the ticket before claiming your prize at the Texas Lottery claim center," Texas Lottery Executive Director Ryan Mindell said in a press release.

The winner can receive their money through the mail or in-person

If mailing the ticket, the envelope must be dated no later than Oct 7. It can be sent to the Texas Lottery Commission, ATTN: Austin Claim Center, PO Box 16600 in Austin, 78761-6600, and could take between one and two months to process. A claim form must be included as well.

The winner can also visit one of several claim centers throughout the state by 5 p.m. on Oct. 7, including the Texas Lottery Commission Headquarters, located at 1801 Congress Ave., Suite 6.403 in Austin.

What happens if a lottery ticket isn't claimed by the deadline?

The winner has until Oct. 7 to claim their prize – but what happens to the money if they don't?

As a standard practice, ticket holders have 180 days, or roughly six months, to claim their earnings after a drawing.

After the deadline, the prize money goes back into Texas programs, according to the Texas Lottery Commission.
