CAIR calls for arrests after confrontation on UT Austin campus Thursday

Two groups got into a verbal altercation in the hallway outside an event called "Palestine 101."

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas chapter of the Council on Islamic-American Relations (CAIR) is calling for arrests after a verbal altercation outside a pro-Palestine event on the University of Texas at Austin campus Thursday night.

The Palestine Solidarity Committee hosted an event called "Palestine 101" at Welch Hall on campus on Thursday night. Two groups got into a verbal altercation in the hallway outside the event.

The director of CAIR's Houston office released a statement about the incident, saying, "The gross violation of the students' rights and liberties to meet and organize around a cause they believe in by these men requires law enforcement to take immediate action. We call for the University of Texas to also take action by banning these men from campus and campus activities."

KVUE reached out to UT Austin officials and UT police about this incident but have yet to hear back. This article will be updated when we do.
