New fines go in to effect in Austin Tuesday, imposing harsher punishment on those who illegally park in a disabled parking spot.
The citation cost will nearly double, and the charge is now criminal. The fines, with court costs, will jump from $255 up to $511.
The changes also apply to someone who illegally uses a disabled parking placard or blocks a disabled space.
