CEDAR PARK, Texas — An Austin Police Department (APD) officer is under investigation for alleged injury to a child.
The Cedar Park Police Department (CPPD) said Friday morning, APD Officer Cameron Caldwell turned himself into the Williamson County Jail on two Injury to a Child charges stemming from "an incident at his Cedar Park home."
APD said it is aware of the criminal investigation involving Caldwell and is cooperating with CPPD. Per standard protocol, APD said it has placed Caldwell on restricted duty and has initiated an administrative investigation into the matter.
CPPD said its investigation is active and ongoing. No additional information is available at this time.
Caldwell is the same officer who, back in August 2016, was suspended for 45 days after he pepper-sprayed a handcuffed man in the face during South by Southwest (SXSW).
A video showed Chicago native Tyrone Wilson was being arrested on a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest during SXSW when Caldwell opened the door and told him to stop kicking. Moments later, the two men had another exchange, during which Caldwell used pepper spray on Wilson.
