10 facts about Texas' new governor

Greg Abbott officially takes the reins as Texas' 48th governor on Tuesday. Here are 10 facts about the new governor.

1. Abbott was born in Wichita Falls and raised in Duncanville, Texas.

2. During his time at Duncanville High School, Abbott was on the track team, in the honor society and voted "Most Likely To Succeed."

3. Abbott received his bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Texas at Austin and received his law degree from Vanderbilt University.

4. Shortly after graduating from law school, Abbott was partially paralyzed by a fallen tree while jogging.

5. Abbott is the first governor to use a wheelchair since Alabama Gov. George Wallace in 1982. He is only the third governor in U.S. history to use a wheelchair, the first being Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was elected governor of New York in 1928.

6. Abbott and his wife, Cecilia, a former school teacher and principal, have been married for 33 years. They have one daughter, Audrey.

7. Cecilia will become the first Latina first lady in Texas history.

8. Abbott is an "avid sportsman and hunter," according to his website.

9. Before being elected governor, Abbott served as Texas' 50th attorney general for three terms. Before being elected as attorney general, he served as a justice on the Texas Supreme Court and as a state district judge in Harris County.

10. Abbott has filed more than 30 lawsuits against the Obama Administration.
