According to the Texas Secretary of State, the reported early voter turnout for the Texas primary in 2020 was more than double the reported early voter turnout in the 2018 Texas primary.
Out of more than 16 million total registered Texas voters in 2020, more than 2 million Democratic and Republican voters, approximately 12.87%, reportedly showed up at the polls from Feb. 18 to Feb. 28.
Out of these early voters, nearly 1.9 million completed their ballot in-person while more than 200,000 submitted their votes by mail.
In 2018, with nearly 10 million registered Texas voters, just under 900,000 reported voters, approximately 8.93%, participated in the Democratic and Republican primaries.
Out of the early voters in 2018, nearly 760,000 voted in-person while more than 126,000 voted by mail.
These figures can be further broken down by party.
In the 2020 Texas primary, 1,085,387 of the reported early voters participated in the Republican primary while 1,000,316 of the reported voters took part in the Democratic primary.
In the 2018 Texas primary, 420,329 of the reported early voters voted in the Republican primary while 465,245 participated in Democratic primary.
The Texas primary takes place on Tuesday, March 3, with the corresponding general election taking place in November.
