AUSTIN -- The Austin Police Department wants to remind ACL Festival-goers to follow safety tips when it comes to vehicle crime.
APD's Auto Theft Interdiction Project says car thieves will be looking for items to steal in vehicles during the three-day festival. Police say it only takes two and a half minutes for your car to be burglarized, and five minutes for it to be stolen.
Follow these tips to prevent vehicle crime:
- Lock your car and take your keys. Do not make things easy for a thief to enter your car.
- Make sure to park in lit areas or attended lots. Car thieves don't like witnesses.
- Hide your valuables. Lock them in the trunk or glove box.
