SALT FLAT, Texas – The image of a squirrel about to feast on a snake has gone viral. It was posted on the Guadalupe Mountains National Park Facebook page on July 6.
According to the caption on the photo, Ranger William Leggett heard "a racket outside the Frijole Ranch" and snapped the picture. Leggett said the rock squirrel "devoured most of the snake, bones and all, down to the last two inches."
Rock squirrels usually eat plants, fruits and nuts. They will also eat bird eggs, lizards and snakes.
Perhaps the U.S. Department of the Interior said it best when it shared the image, captioning it: "Don't Mess with Texas Squirrels!"
