NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- Visitors to the Comal River may notice some changes this Labor Day weekend: lifeguards.
The police chief in New Braunfels is asking for lifeguards to patrol the river after a child drowned over the weekend.
The body of 5-year-old Christian Lopez was pulled from the river on Saturday, hours after his parents first reported him missing.
At a city council meeting in New Braunfels, the police chief asked council to consider building a lifeguard station on the river near Hinman Island park.
Last summer, a 6-year-old boy also drowned in the same spot.
