TEXAS, USA — The Food and Drug Administration is warning people in five states -including Texas- about a cantaloupe brand that might be contaminated with salmonella.

More than 220 cases of KANDY whole cantaloupes were recalled on Sept. 6 after the bacteria was discovered in Michigan during a scheduled sample testing.

The fruit was distributed between Aug. 13-17 to markets in Texas, Michigan, Virginia, Ohio and Missouri, and was recalled by Eagle Produce LLC in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This particular product is labeled with a red and white sticker that says, "KANDY." It has a UPC code of 4050 and shows the lot code number 846468. Anyone who has bought this brand of cantaloupe should avoid eating it and instead get rid of it all together.

So far, the FDA said no illnesses have been reported as a result of the products. However, it's important to be aware of the signs of salmonella.

Symptoms of the bacteria include nausea, fevers, diarrhea and stomach pain. In more serious instances, it can also cause arthritis, inflammation of the heart (Endocarditis) and/or infected aneurysms.

If you believe this product made you sick, it's recommended to reach out to a medical professional.

You can also reach Eagle Produce LLC directly at 1-800-627-8674.
