Texans take part in First Day Hikes at Texas State Parks

Texas State Parks has reported that a record number of visitors participated in the 2019 First Day Hikes, a program that state parks take part in across the United States.

AUSTIN, Texas — The New Year had a great start for those who like to hike and enjoy the outdoors across Texas, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Despite the chilly start to the new year, nearly 4,000 visitors hiked at Texas state parks for their First Day Hike event on Jan. 1.

Texas had the fourth highest participation for the event in the country with the largest number of parks participating.

Texas State Parks said 77 parks hosted 124 events throughout the day where participants hiked more than 7,000 miles combined.

“We were so excited to see a record number of visitor’s ring in 2019 with a First Day Hike at a Texas State Park,” said Rodney Franklin, Director of Texas State Parks. “First Day Hikes have become a tradition for many families and we encourage everyone to continue to explore the beautiful views and vistas found at parks statewide throughout the year.”
