AUSTIN, Texas — "Keep Austin Weird." It's a phrase we've all come to know, but now Austinites may soon be able to keep their cars weird too.
The Texas Transportation Commission OK'd senate bill 1271, which would require the Texas DMV to add "Keep Austin Weird" to its special license plates display for an extra fee.
The unofficial Austin motto has been around for roughly two decades.
Red Wassenich, an ACC professor, coined the phrase back in 2000.
