"From Spain, Sergio Garcia"
Whenever the 10th ranked golfer on the planet tees off in a tournament, there's a good chance a Longhorn legend and his family are nearby.
"I'm great fan", said the wife of former UT all-american quarterback, Marty Akins.
Akins and his wife are loyal fans of Sergio Garcia and will soon become Garcia's in-laws.
Sergio proposed to their youngest daughter, Angela back in January.
"When Angela 1st told me she was dating Sergio Garcia, it didn't surprise me because she loves golf", said Akins.
In fact, Angela Akins played golf at UT and later became a talent for The Golf Channel.
Meanwhile, Garcia has been welcomed with open arms into this Longhorn family while learning about his future father-in-law's legendary career as a UT quarterback.
"He was unbelievable", said Garcia.
During a visit to the Texas football game vs TCU at DKR Memorial Stadium back in November, Garcia and his Angela Akins posed for a picture with the hook 'em Horns hand signs. I asked Marty Akins if that was a proud moment for him. Akins said, "I think Angela has him all wrapped up in what it means to be a Longhorn. Hook Em Horns is part of the Akins lore".
Sergio Garcia and Marty Akins are bonded by golf and bow hunting. Needless to say, Sergio is perfect fit into the Akins family. "We're one of those touchy feely and affectionate families. We tell each other we love them and he's (Sergio Garcia) into that too", said Akins.
So, we should expect to see more of Sergio Garcia in Austin and at Longhorn football games in the fall.
