AUSTIN, Texas — Starting on Friday, several schools in Central Texas will compete in the National High School Cheer Championship (NHSCC) in Orlando, Florida, including the current reigning champions, Westlake High School.
The program won its fourth national title last year for Super Varsity Division 1.
That list also includes the Del Valle High School varsity cheerleading team. This will be the second year in a row the Del Valle High School cheerleading team has received a bid to participate in the event. The 13 student-athletes, led by coach Janet Ndomahina, will have their first performance on Friday in the medium non-tumble game day division.
“We are excited about the opportunity to compete in such a prominent championship for cheer teams,” said Tawni Angel, Del Valle ISD athletic director, “Our Cardinal Cheer program has worked extremely hard to prepare for the event, and we know they will represent Del Valle with great pride.”

Other squads representing Central Texas include Bastrop High School's cheerleading squad, as well as Taylor High School and Middle School. Rouse High School is also listed on the NHSCC schedule.
This was supposed be the Bastrop cheerleading squad's first time to compete on the national stage. However, they posted on Facebook in December that they did not have the finances to send the team to Florida, but they would still be competing at State.
The event will go from Feb. 7 through Feb. 9 and will be hosted at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. You can watch the competition here.
