Spieth wins, Tiger loses on day two of Dell Match Play

Friday may include tie-breaker scenarios to advance to the round of 16 on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas — It was a windy but gorgeous Thursday for day two of pool play at Austin Country Club.

The galleries included some familiar faces like Texas Longhorn football legend/Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell and Houston Texans great J.J. Watt.

A collection of big names were eliminated from advancing to Saturday's round of 16, including defending champion Bubba Watson.

The champions of each of the sixteen groups (four golfers in each pool) advance to play on Saturday.

Watson fell to Billy Horschel, 2 and 1, falling to 0-2 in pool play.

Here's how to stay safe in the heat at Dell Match Play

Dell Match Play begins at Austin Country Club

Spieth, who is in the same pool as Horschel and Watson, defeated Kevin Na on Thursday, 3 and 2.

"Solid golf, I kind of shot myself in the foot to not close it out on 13, then it was all of a sudden 'this is a match,'" said Spieth. "I'm pleased with how my game is progressing day to day."

Spieth must win his match against defending champion Bubba Watson and hope for Na to beat Billy Horschel. If not, a tiebreaker may decide who advances to the round of 16.

As for Tiger Woods, he lost his match to Brandt Snedeker, 2 and 1. Woods fell to 1-1 in pool play. Snedeker is 1-0-1.

Patrick Cantlay defeated Aaron Wise, 4 and 2, improving to 1-0-1. Woods and Cantlay will square off on Friday.

Tiger has a chance to advance to the round of 16 with a win tomorrow and a Snedeker loss in his match against Wise.
