The state of Texas has a new all-time wins leader, and it's Calallen's own Phil Danaher, who passed GA Moore after the Wildcats' 31-7 win over Flour Bluff in the 30-5A Championship Game.
Danaher moved into the top spot with his 427th career victory, which also included early stops at Dilley and Hamshire-Fannett before settling in with Calallen for the majority of his career.
It looked like Danaher might not get the record early on, as Flour Bluff jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead on Jaeger Bull's touchdown pass to Jacob Soliz. The 'Cats would answer right back, with quarterback Gaige Lamb punching in the game-tying score on the ground.
The big momentum swing came at the end of the first half when Calallen put its kicking issues aside, at least for one play, as Grant Gonzalez drilled a 38-yard field goal with no time left on the clock to give the 'Cats the 10-7 lead at the break.
Calallen would dominate from there, outscoring the Hornets 21-0 in the second half en route to the district crown. Calallen will go in as the number one seed out of 30-5A in the small division, while Flour Bluff now has to await the Carroll-G-P winner tomorrow to see where it falls in the playoff standings.
