AUSTIN, Texas — Mother Nature remains undefeated.
UT baseball needs wins, but stormy conditions in the Austin area didn't allow Tuesday night's game against Texas State to occur at Disch-Falk Field.
Lightning delayed the original first pitch from 6:30 p.m. to 7:03 p.m. The Longhorns' head coach, David Pierce, and the Bobcats' head coach, Ty Harrington, were talking in the UT dugout before a line of storms moved in from the south.
Fans gathered underneath the grand stand of Disch-Falk hopeful the weather would clear. Some fans ages 21 and up took advantage of the extended "happy hour" pregame discount on beer prices.
The game was called at 8:22 p.m. Both schools begin final exams on Wednesday morning.
The game will not be made up. The Bobcats beat Texas in San Marcos, 7-6 two weeks ago.
UT has been on a downward spiral the latter part of the season, losing 10 of their previous 11 games and are in last place in the Big 12 baseball standings with a 6-14 record. Texas is 25-25 overall.
UT has one more midweek game on the schedule next Tuesday at Disch-Falk Field against Incarnate Word University before closing out the regular season with a home series against rival Oklahoma. The series against the Sooners begins Thursday, May 16 at Disch-Falk Field.
Here are the current standings in the Big 12 race. The top eight will play in the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City. Texas is currently in ninth, three losses behind Kansas State.
Baylor 14-6
Texas Tech 14-7
Oklahoma State 14-8
West Virginia 11-10
Oklahoma 8-10
TCU 8-10
Kansas 8-10
Kansas State 7-11
Texas 6-14
Meanwhile, Ty Harrington's Texas State Bobcats are trending the opposite direction of the Longhorns. The Bobcats have won 12 of their past 14 games and lead the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference with a 17-7 record and are 33-15 overall.
