AUSTIN -- University of Texas head basketball coach Shaka Smart announced Thursday that sophomore guard Jacob Young has chosen to transfer.
“I appreciate all of the effort that Jacob has given to our University over the past two seasons,” Smart said. “Jacob has been a valuable contributor to our program, and we wish him and his family the very best moving forward.”
Young made many contributions to the UT basketball team in his freshman and sophomore seasons. As a freshman in the 2016-17 season, Young played in all 33 games (5 starts) and averaged 3.7 points in 16.4 minutes per contest. During Young's sophomore season, he played in 30 games (5 starts) and was ranked sixth on the team in scoring with 6.2 points per game in 16.8 minutes per contest.
Young played in 63 career games (10 starts) for the Longhorns over the two years and reached double figures in scoring nine times.
“I want to thank the coaches, staff and my teammates at Texas for the past two years,” Young said. “I wish Coach Smart and his program all the best.”
