Longhorns receivers continue to battle in spring camp

Spring camp concludes for the Longhorns in just a week with the spring game on April 13.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Longhorns returned from spring break with a reality check.

“In 27 hours we’ve had two really difficult and physical practices,” said Texas head coach Tom Herman.

Of course, there’s always the light at the end of the tunnel for the Longhorns. Spring camp concludes a week from Saturday with the spring game on April 13.

There’s progress in multiple areas and position battles at five positions that will likely carry over into August camp.

One position players are battling for is the 'X' receiver position, or in other words, the outside receiver.

Lil’ Jordan left early for the NFL which created an opportunity for young Texas receivers to battle for the 'X' position.

Tom Herman was asked about potentially having both Epps and Colin Johnson on the field at the same time.

“It’s going to be a great battle," said Herman. "We have five guys battling for two spots on the outside receiver position."

Both Johnson and Epps share the same measures in stature at 6’ 6”.

Herman added that Epps, a former lanky basketball star in high school, has bulked up to 242 pounds.
